CHOREOGRAPHED AND PERFORMED BY: MADISON DOMANSKI
LOCATION: BUILDING J AT THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY
Inspired by a chance connection, Domanski creates an object study solo based around a ceramic plate an individual made for her, that would then become her roommate. The solo travels down a diagonal plane throughout representing the timeline of Domanski’s life and thus separating the piece into three sections: part one- before the individual, part two- meeting the individual, and part three- interacting with and carrying those memories forever. Domanski chose to achieve this by placing the plate in the center of the diagonal plane. By not dancing with it in part one at all which represents the time prior to meeting, this allows the plate to fully personify the individual. To then making eye contact with it to begin part two to then dancing with it in hand to commence part three, these moments of connection with the object comes to a close when the performer carries the plate off stage, thus representing Domanski carrying the memories with her forever, even if the individual/plate is not.
