ABOUT THE ARTIST

Madison Domanski (she/her) is a freelance dancer/choreographer with a BA in dance from The George Washington University. Throughout her time at GW, Domanski performed and worked closely with guest artists Judy Sperling of Time Lapse Dance and Jamie Scott and Leah Ives of the Trisha Brown Dance Company along with performing the works of professors Anna Kimmel and Brendan Drake. She has since trained with DART Dance Company in Berlin-delving into the GAGA technique with Kasia Kizior and learning the repertoire of Marco Goecke and Sol Leon & Paul Lightfoot with Olivier Coeffard- and will be participating/performing in BigKid Dance’s choreographic residency with Dance Place in Washington, D.C. this spring. Other intensive credits include: Henny Jurriens Dance Studio Amsterdam, JUMPSTART/LA, Eisenhower Dance Detroit, Moving Forward Dance, Ground Grooves, Urbanity Dance, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet.

During her creative process, she aims to push the boundaries of what it means to interact on stage, both with one another and the space. Domanski explored this idea in her senior honors thesis titled "interwoven: a tetrad of twos" which was inspired by the pedagogy of Ground Grooves, a floorwork practice based in LA developed by Laura Berg and Gracie Whyte, who also served as mentors to her throughout the process. This combined with expanding upon moving "for the body" rather than "moving the body" included moments of trust and true understanding of full control over of one's own body so that they can best support another is the journey Domanski took her dancers on during the weekly open classes and rehearsals to culminate in the final work.
